HRD Quianna Canada 3 Burgers at 3 Different Price Points in Cork: Here’s the One You Should Buy

Over the last few months I had the privilege of eating at three different cheeseburgers spots in Cork at three entirely different price points. Cheeseburgers are delicious. Yes, some are relatively cheap. Although I did not splurge on a Le Burger Extravagant, I am reminded that some of the price points mentioned below may be outside the ordinary person’s reach.

Before I reveal which cheeseburger my taste buds enjoyed the most, I’ll first provide a history of the burger joint I visited and refer to some yummy ingredients.

Bunsen’s Cheeseburger

Irish cousins, Tom and Finn, launched Bunsen in 2013. They opened their flagship joint on Wexford Street in Dublin. Bunsen’s cheeseburgers have a classic American bun known as the “squish,” which are made by a baker named Derek in his Tallaght bakery. The burger is made with Black Aberdeen Angus supplied by FX Buckley, which is said to be “breed n’ feed” in Ireland. It also comes with fresh lettuce, onions and tomatoes, and has a special blend of gooey Comte and Jack cheese.

The Yum: I liked the buttery bun and well-seasoned Black Aberdeen Angus beef.

The Bum: The cheeseburgers are tiny and do not keep you full throughout the day. The wait time is average, and the cheeseburger cost €9.45, which can be a bit pricey for the average patron.

Shake Dog’s Cheeseburger

Shake Dog honors itself as being a “Finer Diner” of American-style restaurants, which serves burgers, fries, shakes, hot dogs and more. Shake Dog is part of Eddie Rocket’s Irish restaurant chain and has been in business since 1999. There is not much information on their website about the beef, other than it is 100 percent Irish Hereford.

The Yum: These cheesy burgers are incredible. The ground beef is juicy and well-seasoned. It is the median of three in price and runs around €7.50.
The Bum: I had no complaints regarding the cheeseburger itself. While Shake Dog’s cheeseburger wait time runs the slowest, its worth the wait. My only bum is that Shake Dog’s floor is often sullied with water and debris, which can be revolting to look at while a patron is eating. This may, potentially, cause a patron to lose their appetite.

McDonald’s Cheeseburger

McDonald’s is an American multinational fast food chain founded in 1940 as a restaurant operated by Richard and Maurice McDonald in San Bernardino, California. Their cheeseburgers are relatively small with simple ingredients, such as American cheese, pickles and McDonald’s secret sauce.

The Yum: McDonald’s has the quickest wait time. Their cheeseburgers also run around €1.70, the cheapest of the three.

The Bum: The meat patty is thin; the bun is rubbery and the cheeseburger is lacking in ingredients.
